slaughterfree, organic yarn

Did you know, that normally also wool sheep end in the slaughterhouse when they are still young? Gentle wool yarn comes from a slaughterfree flock of shetland sheep, which means, the sheep don’t end in the food chain after only five years.

They are allowed to live their lifes until they pass away naturally or like pets at the age of 10 years old or more. The sheep live on a farm in Wales, UK, where they can grase on wast meadows and chew on fresh grass.

When I found out the sad truth about normal wool sheep, I felt quite desperate. I didn’t want to have a hobby, where animals were killed. After a long search I finally found Helen’s and Pete’s farm in Wales. They are organic farmers which keep about seventy happy shetland sheep.

Their sheep give us the softest, bounciest yarn in beautiful natural colours. The wool fabric is soft and cozy and is well suited for textured patters like cables but also for fairisle knitting, because it has a soft halo.

Happy knitting with wool from happy little sheep!
